Whitening can completely transform your smile, even though it’s just changing the colour of your teeth to a lighter, whiter shade. We naturally view whiter smiles as healthy and younger as our teeth tend to darken as we age. Whitening lifts away stains that have built up over the years and bleaches the teeth, making your smile whiter as a result.
At White House Dental Practice, we offer affordable home whitening. We’ve chosen this whitening option as the low sensitivity is the most comfortable for our patients. It also delivers even and dramatic results and is more affordable than in-surgery whitening. It can also be carried out at times to suit you, in the comfort of your own home.
How does whitening work?
Our whitening treatments use a special gel that contains a safe bleaching agent. Home whitening uses custom-made trays which are worn with the gel inside so it coats the surfaces
Treatment steps
- Impressions are taken of your teeth so customised whitening trays can be produced to fit.
- When ready, you will wear these at home with a bleaching gel for a specified length of time each day.
- After wearing the trays for a few weeks, you will attend a follow-up appointment to check your teeth have reached the desired shade.
Although this treatment is carried out at home, we still keep a close eye on your teeth to lessen any gum irritation and tooth sensitivity.
Please note, teeth whitening will only work on natural teeth and will not be effective on restorations such as crowns, veneers or dentures.
Aftercare
Teeth whitening does not provide permanent results but you can reuse the mouth trays and purchase more gel if a top-up is required.
Frequently Asked Question
Teeth whitening treatment itself is pain free, using accurate and precise whitening trays to ensure your comfort. This is particularly important if you opt for whitening overnight. You may find that you experience some sensitivity in your teeth during treatment, but this is temporary and will fade when you stop wearing the whitening trays.
No, teeth whitening will not damage your tooth structure or enamel, or your gums. We use professional regulated systems that are completely safe, and supervise your treatment to ensure everything goes to plan. Your teeth may become more sensitive during your whitening treatment, but this is temporary and will go once treatment is complete.
The length of time that your teeth whitening results last depends on your individual case, and in some instances your lifestyle and diet choices. Teeth whitening is not permanent, and will need to be topped up to ensure your whiter, healthier looking teeth remain for the long term. On average, whitening results can last anywhere from a few months to a few years.
Yes, when teeth whitening treatment is carried out by a qualified and experienced dentist or dental health professional, it is completely safe. Your dentist is trained in the use of regulated whitening systems and is best placed to look after your teeth throughout treatment. It is best to avoid using teeth whitening kits that can be bought online, or having teeth whitening treatment in a beauty salon, as these are unregulated and could cause damage to your teeth and gums.
